can vouch for Spcialized..........

in the early 90's (wen i was young and fit!) I raced mountain bikes in the Malverns Classics.... (bunch of us in the RAF were really into biking, and orienteering etc)

My first "decent" mountain bike (after riding a Diamondback) was one of these:
