yeah, shame though - everywhere points back to this:

Word has no facility for simply creating screen tips; they must be part of something else.

It is possible to set up Word so that comments only display in the screentips, and no where else (i.e. not in balloons). Assuming, of course, that the user doesn't fiddle with these settings (you could use an AutoOpen and AutoClose macro to make your preferred settings, and then restore the user's).

But that's really going to be your only alternative, at least in current versions of Word.
