I believe....

its from sailing into India in the days of the British Empire, so we're talking victorian times.... squalor on one side of the river bason, expensive British architecture on the other..... only what my dad told me years ago (he served 22 years in the Navy, lived in India and Hong Kong, so I kinda took it as read.....)
