Because there's so much choice on television, that's the point you're missing

there are so many networks in America, and there's masses of re runs that can pull in the viewers, so when something new comes along, it's difficult to attract the viewers

Breaking Bad is on the same network as TWD, and it's critically acclaimed, as is Dexter, but both have under 3m viewers on average. BB under 2m

So in the same genre (not reality tv like x factor, or long running soap operas on the most established station in the UK), so in the same genre, 9m viewers whilst competing against so much other choice, is exceptional

I'm sorry you don't like it, that's fine, but it isn't in tune with the viewers, on a network that produces other exceptional drama. So it's a big deal for AMC with it doing so well
