ok, then consider the characters are acting consistantly with their levels of stupidity

the whole world has been over-run with the undead

that's the army with their military bases and big f**k off weaponry defeated by brainless zombies - a very big and very scary sit-u-ation

and yet the main characters spend most of the first series camping in a quarry like they were on a scouts weekend away seemingly opblivious to the lack of protection a nylon tent would actually afford them

every decision taken in series 2 is consistant with that mind-set
