Lotus F1 Team

is a British Formula One racing team. The team will compete under the Lotus name for the first time in the 2012 Formula One season, following the renaming of the former Renault team based at Enstone in Oxfordshire. Lotus F1 Team is owned by Luxembourg-based venture capital group Genii Capital[5] and named after its title sponsor, Group Lotus, which has an option to become a shareholder.

Team Lotus was the name given to a Malaysian-owned Formula One team, based in the United Kingdom, during the 2011 season. The team was known as Lotus Racing during its debut season in 2010, as well as by the company name 1Malaysia Racing Team. The team was set up by a group of Malaysian businessmen led by Tony Fernandes using a licence from Lotus Cars owner Proton, for the use of the Lotus name in Formula One. The team gained its entry after the withdrawal of the BMW team in 2009. After having that licence terminated for further seasons, the team used the historic Team Lotus name in the 2011 season.
The Caterham Group was set up after Fernandes purchased British sportscar manufacturer Caterham Cars. Team Lotus, although forming part of the group, continued to compete under the Lotus name for the 2011 Formula One season. The team's name was changed to "Caterham F1 Team" at the end of 2011, and will compete under the Caterham brand in conjunction with the Caterham Racing GP2 team.

Lotus Cars is a British manufacturer of sports and racing cars based at the former site of RAF Hethel, a World War II airfield in Norfolk. The company designs and builds race and production automobiles of light weight and fine handling characteristics. It also owns the engineering consultancy Lotus Engineering, which has facilities in the United Kingdom, United States, Malaysia and China.
Lotus is owned by Proton, which acquired it following the bankruptcy of former owner Romano Artioli in 1994.
