When I first went to the Fine City it took 4 1/2 hours from Southampton

That was in 1974 when I was a student. Now I am doing that trip again regularly it takes 3 1/2 hours on a Sunday, a bit longer on Saturday, so fair progress (and a much more relaxing drive in general), though a lot of that is down to the M3, M25 and M11. Since I started travelling the A11 regularly in 1995 it has improved a lot either side of the single section, but that is so bad I avoid it completely in the late Spring and Summer.
