My advice....

I have done lots and lots and lots of testing and research.

Get a 40" Samsung LCD or LED TV.

- The vast majority of TV shows are broadcast in standard definition. Samsung have by far the best up-scaling of standard definition TV images.

- 40" size TV's tend to have best made panels (screens).

- Once you have the TV, look online for the best picture settings for the model you have. This will likely involve switching OFF all image processing features (because most of it is just a gimmick that actually makes the picture worse).

- Never ever, ever, ever go by the picture you see in a shop. Don't take any notice at all of what the shops say as they talk complete rubbish and don't really know about the products they sell.

- Order on-line with free returns because then you can test it out and send it back within 7 days.

- Amazon customer service tends to be good. John Lewis give you a free 5 year guarantee (or they did the last time I looked).

- Completely ignore what anyone else says, because they probably have their TV set-up wrongly, or are trolls who are actually working for LG etc. etc.

As for the best deal - I will have a look for you.
