Yeah, it's going to happen more often then (it's probably the motherboard slowly failing)

It'll still last a while and work, but it's probably going to take a push to work

You might find little tricks to get it to post in. If it does post in, press the cd drive to open. Then when you power it off you can hold the cd tray and let it power off without the door shut

That might bypass the cd being scanned on boot up, and the automatic shutting of the cd door on powering up, might just be a little kick up the backside for it to kick in

If there's a switch on the back of the desktop, I used to turn that on and off. Sometimes I would pull the power cord out without powering the machine off (probably not healthy, but they are the things that trigger it to work again)

On shut downs, I used to restart it, and then shut it down (hoping that next time it'll be a fresh start)
