dont touch GT with a barge-pole! antequated heavy frame design unless you get into the carbon fibe bracket...... most mid range bikes end up having lower spec gear-sets to compensate.....

I'd recommend Cannondale (I have a V frame!), Kona and Marin...

However, I still believe the best value and best frame/gearset combo's come with Specialized....

Go for a Stumpjumper..... you wont regret it!

(I had a Rockhopper before my Cannondale, and kinda regret not getting a Stumpjumper! The "special sales price of the V frame hooked me in!!)
