We made a sourdough cake over the weekend

had the sourdough mixture starter thingie in a bowl for 10 days beforehand, feeding it every couple of days and suchlike. watching it get all bubbly and yeasty.

All a bit twee - we were supposed to call the mixture 'Herman', and the note we had on it said things like "Herman is hungry today" - but the cake was outstanding.
