Is there a connection to the service provider when you boot up the net?

Like a fault screen suggesting you try and connect to the router?

Are all the lights on the router at green? If not then it's probably them working on it

If all the lights are green, and you're not getting a fault screen, then it might be something to do with the network card on your machine
