He was going for (and got) the ball. It was just a tackle.

This obsession with not going in studs up has gone way too far. If a ball bounces off the ground (as that one had), and players are trying to get a foot to it, then their studs will show at times. That's football - there's no other way when you're stretching to get a foot to it.

If things carry on as they are at the moment then players are just going to have to stop tackling completely.
