The kms stat is not any sort of a guide to a player's contribution. Surman is one of a few

of our players with Premier League-standard skill (Holt, Hoolahan, Naughton...), but he's not very brave.

I still love him for his skill - I was even unfairly disappointed that he didn't score with his left foot volley last night - it would have been ridiculous and a match for Campell's goal.
