What i'm really loving about Lambert and Mcnally's work right now is..

the sense that we have a real plan and are hopefully setting ourselves up for a real period of sustained success/growth.

In my view Lambert is also showing himself to be a selfless manager. He could have gone to the board this window and demanded huge sums of money for transfers to keep us in the league and maintain his own reputation but instead he appears to have gone out and made two very astute signings "for the future" which by premier league standards have not broken the bank.

Whether that future involves Lambert for too much longer must be open to debate. I obviously hope it does but suspect he will be tempted away from us in the next year or so. Even if he does go, however, he looks likely to leave us in the premier league and with a squad full of highly promising, young players coming into their prime and most of whom we have secured on 3-4 year contracts. The Bennetts, Pilkington, Ayala, Whitbread (hopefully), Howson, Johnson and (if he can ever stay fit) Vaughan all great young players who (along with Rudd or Steer) will form the new nucleus of our team over the coming years. if, however, any of them do go then I am willing to bet they will be sold for far more than we paid for any of them and we will be able to get replacements.

It is all so far away from the shambles and short termism of the Doncaster regime its untrue. There we had none of our own players to be proud of or who had any saleable value at all. Great times and once again hats of to Lambert who for me has demonstrated why he is class above the likes of Redknapp who has brought two or three clubs to their knees by putting his own interests ahead of the club when it comes to transfers.
