We took ours to the vet today. One look at it and he goes,

"needs a tooth out, that'll be ?200".

Oh right.

"yep, and ?50 for an x-ray"

"and ?75 for anesthetic"

"yeah, and another ?50 if you want fluids. You do want fluids don't you?"

Then someone brought in a smashed up dog with blood thicker than paint, which died.
