nowadays, no club would just accept an offer and then tell the player to get himself to the new club to sort the rest out. Maybe in the 1980s. But not now, given the importance of agents, player power etc.

Of course, what 'Judith' doesn't mention is that Howson hadn't signed a new contract - presumably he was running it down with the express intention of leaving in the summer. And you imagine he must have told them he'd be willing to leave before then to go to the prem - otherwise they would hardly accept an offer before even talking to him.
