That missing men puzzle

We go on about Beckham, Lampard and Gerrard but are they really a better 3 than Ince, Beckham and Gascoigne in 96 I wonder ?

It's interesting to compare today's squad to that 96 squad. Let's assume the same formation then:

GK: Seaman vs Robinson
DC: Southgate vs Terry (or Rio, or Sol)
RB: Neville 96 vs Neville 05
LB: Pearce vs A Cole
DM: Ince vs Gerrard (yeah OK but for comparison)
RCM: Becks 96 vs Becks 05
LCM: Gazza vs Lampard
RF: McManaman vs SWP
LF: Hinchcliffe vs J Cole
ST: Shearer vs Rooney
ST: Ferdinand vs Owen

Not much in it is there ?
