We have a thing in our house about this.

Whenever I put a new bog roll on, I orient it in the correct manner (Option 1 from your above). Whenever Mrs B puts a new one on she does it in the wrong way. I then, first time I'm in the bathroom afterwards, take it off and put it back the right way. It always, then, stays the right way, until the end of the roll. She's never changed it back to her way.

Thing is, we have *never* spoken about it. Together for 15 years, living together for very nearly all of those, and we've never mentioned it. I don't know if she's noticed that I always swap it over or not. It's gone on that long that I don't want to mention it now.
