United don't send young players like De Laet out to get them off the wage bill for a bit, they send them out to get playing experience to boost their development. If De Laet isn't going to play there's no benefit to United in keeping him here so they'd be amenable to taking him back.
Plus, maybe they want him for their Thursday night Europa League adventures.
