On January 16, 2010, Norwich won 5-0 at Lambert?s previous club, Colchester, in League One. Two years on, five of the Norwich team that day were in Lambert?s squad in the West Midlands, and four of them - Zak Whitbread, Russell Martin, Wes Hoolahan and Grant Holt - played.

No fewer than eight others from Saturday?s Norwich squad were also in League One that same weekend in 2010, at clubs such as Gillingham, Brighton, Huddersfield and MK Dons. So 13 of the 18 were in the third division.

Of the others, goalkeeper John Ruddy was on loan at Motherwell, the substitute keeper Jed Steer was 17, Kyle Naughton was about to go on loan to Middlesbrough in the Championship and Daniel Ayala was not getting a game at Liverpool.
Of the Norwich 18 on Saturday, only Andrew Surman played in the Premier League on the corresponding weekend in 2010. Surman was an 82nd-minute substitute for Wolves in a home defeat by Wigan.
