points are points, no matter who you get them against. Beating the lower-placed teams only matters to the extent that it leaves more teams beneath you, and puts a bigger gap between you and them.

And you're right, to some extent. We have exactly the same number of teams beneath us as they did. But we *do* have a bigger gap to 18th than they did. By three points (although when Blackpool had played 20, all the other teams had played a game more than they have this season).
