What's the deal with SPOTIFY?

I can't be arsed to learn/google about it, but I just tried to play a video from my camera on the computer and it says the file is a spotify file.

Spotify opened and all my music appears to now be in there, along with music that isn't mine but is starred.

I take it I can't sync the music that isn't mine onto my ipod?

Christ, I even bored myself with this post.
