Some thoughts on us and the transfer window. (very long)

Haterz/tilterz stop now.............

There is a lot of talk about bringing in CBs when you ship a lot of goals.

I dont think PL is looking in that direction.

The problem is the players we would look at buying (that are in our price range and wage scale) are almost certainly unproven at this level.

If the CBs were getting destroyed in open play I could understand the clamour but I feel a lot of the goals are stupid mistakes..... not related to quality of player.

I think Lambert was spot on yesterday bringing in Whitbread for Barnett.
I know Whitbread messed up but we want ball playing CBs.
Whitbread is so much better on the ball than Barnett.

Looking at teams like Newcastle, they had great CBs but once they were injured they have zero squad depth.
We have at least a depth in quality with at least 6 players who could play CB and have done well this season.

I think squad depth at CB is as important as quality because of the nature of the position (injuries and suspensions)

One direction he may be looking in may surprise some.

He may be looking at another goalkeeper.

Im not going to slate Ruddy but he is the one player in our squad who doesnt really have heavy competition for his place.
Rudd might be the future along with Steer but maybe needs a season out on loan somewhere to gain some experience.

Saying that the major advantage of having Rudd or Steer as the no 2 is the fact they dont take up a squad place.

I absolutely think he is looking at striking options.

With Vaughan out till Feb its possible we wont include him in the Jan 25.

If we go back to a diamond formation we need another quality striker.
Its possible we could loan/sell Wilbraham or/and Jackson in the window.
If C Martin hits form for Palace we may have some decisions to make on him as well.

Overall I think our squad quality is currently pretty good in terms of our realistic goal of finishing above the drop zone.

One player I worry about replacing in our squad is Tierney.
If he goes down im not sure what we would do without a huge re-shuffle of the current back 4

Drury has looked off the pace in games this season (Mk dons and the reserves)

De Laet and Naughton could play LB as well as Lappin and Johnson.

Also think Lambert has to make some big decisions on players he lets go in the transfer window (sell/loan)

Feel sorry for players like Lappin who has done nothing wrong, hasnt been moaning in public ect ect ect.
