...and to be fair, he's going to need to pop in another 10-12 goals before May and for us to stay up, but...
...if that was to happen-and by no means unlikely-then Holty would deserve a nomination for footballer of the year. I know-blood and guts footballer, old fashioned English centre forward, a modern day Steve Bull, more force than finesse....but what a story.
Went out to Singapore just to get some games, came back here, did it for Rochdale, got a move to Forest, played out of position (still did well) but pretty much written off when he left there and eventually ended up at Shrewsbury, that could have been that and he could have settled for that, but no, he came to us, recently relegated and in on hell of a state, and, from that Yeovil game onwards, became a talisman to the club, two promotions, a figurehead in both those seasons and now scoring at the highest level in the English game, but not only scoring, but playing the only way he knows...the Grant Holt way, the old fashioned number 9, the centre forward...
The mans a star. Has risen to each of the challenges put down before him, ticked them off and looks for the next one. Hard work, effort, belief....so far removed from the Rooney's of the world and maybe not half the player, but twice the man and a role model for the aspiring young footballer if ever there was one...
