Why is Surman playing ahead of Wes?

I can understand Lambert dropping Fox in favour of two work horse tacklers in a game like this (although we need someone to keep possesion), but why bench your best creative player for a second rate version?

I'd also forgot Bennett was playing until he won that corner!
