The final is often a dissapointing, nervous, cagey affair

USA 94 was a snoozer, Euro 96 was a tedious affair settled by a golden goal, France 98 final Brazil didn't turn up, Euro 2000 was a won with a late French sneak attack (similar to Man U champs league 99), World cup 2002 was only memorable for Ronaldo's class and Kahn's fumbling, Euro 2004 was the worst final of all time, Euro 2008 was another tight, tense affair and S'africa 2010 was a clogfest.

No team is going to expose themselves playing open attacking football when there's so much to lose, maybe apart from Brazil, anyway.
