sounds high, but to match the current public sector pensions

would be nigh on impossible in the private sector. Of course us tax payers in the private sector help fund the gold plated pensions. We pay public sector workers to get far far better pensions than private sector workers get. And public sector workers will still get far far better pensions even after the changes.
