Had an immune bug, which meant intense training, would make my immune system vulnerable

(bit like glandular fever, but it wasn't that). I would stop for 6 weeks, then go back to it. Then just as I'd get to peak fitness again, I'd just lose all strength during a training session. Would have a week off, maybe more, and try again

After 2 years of trying (and I'd lost my main long distance events, I couldn't even race 200m, I was only doing sprint events in the end), I gave up. Had a year off all sport, and properly recovered that way
