To provide some light relief

I thought I'd share with you this letter from the Oban Times which I have in front of me, Fort William edition, 17 November. This is real, I'm not making up a word of it, I'm just going to type it out word for word

Do Away With 'daylight saving'

Sir
Quite apart from the convenience/inconvenience factor to farmers and others over the 'daylight saving' matter, I would like to add very strongly the following argument for not putting the clocks back in the autumn.

Have in your mind's eye the odd chap who comes out of the pub when they close after the mid-day session. He might hang around a bit, trying to work off the effects of this session.

Now picture a bunch of children coming out of school in the early evening dark - not all mothers can come to meet their children. So now imagine what can happen when this chap, not in full charge of his better feelings, meets a little girl or even a little boy. The result may be unthinkable, but it does happen.

Surely if only one little kid is prevented from being assaulted, this would be grounds enough for doing away with 'daylight saving'. I implore you to let this argument prevail and to do your utmost to vote against it whenever you can.
