Frederick Albert Cook

The first person to claim to have reached the Pole was Frederick Albert Cook, an American explorer who claimed that he reached it in 1908. Cook's claim was disputed a year later when the Arctic explorer, Robert Edwin Peary, also an American, claimed to be the first person to reach the Pole.
