But back to the point - I think it has become a pride thing as well for

black kids. There is definitely a "white guys can't run" jokey, challenging vibe in the clubs I coach.

When we get a white guy who is fast, he is often ribbed that he must be albino or something. Nobody believes it really, but it has become a challenge and they guys will work out on track and in the gym to prove it.

So I think it WAS and in a lot of cases still is the lack of prospects channeling black kids into sports, predominantly athletics, but these days it also becomes almost a self-fulfilling prophesy because of the tradition created over the 80's and 90s.
