I think it was the Deliver us from Evil tour, I?d been to see them plenty of times before and also after, but this one was just brilliant. Played well, good crowd and a just the right amount of pre gig beers.
Worst gig was Whitesnake at Hammersmith Odeon as it was called then. They played there two nights and I had tickets for the second night with my brother, but got a call for a spare ticket on the first so I went then as well. It was two hours of self-indulgent noise including a very long drum solo. When I went on the second night I was dreading another two hours of even more self-indulgent noise but Matt liked them and I didn?t want to spoil his evening by telling him it was rubbish. And the second night was worse than the first.
The loudest gig I went to was Diamond Head on their Canterbury tour. We were near the front and it was almost too painful to listen to until a man from the council who was there on an inspection decided the volume was so loud it needed to be turned right down. Of course the sound went back up again and was turned down again. This happened a couple more times before an acceptable level was agreed.
All this was back in the mid 1980?s for those old and deaf enough to remember these bands.
