You really have to wonder about some people

I have just returned from my local mini-Tesco, where I witnessed the edifying sight of a generously-proportioned member of the staff trying to stop a shoplifter from escaping.

The offender, a chav in his early 20s, made it most of the way into a beaten-up car (Appropriately enough, I think it was a Vauxhall Chavalier) idling at the kerb for a quick getaway before the Tesco lady swooped like an avenging Valkyrie. As our hero had a firm grip on the stolen items, the accomplice roared off with a screeching of tires and a worrying cloud of exhaust smoke, hauling the offender with him and leaving the prize of this mighty contest on the pavement...

a 2-pack of kitchen towels. And, obviously, his car registration number.

What can I say? It was just...surreal.
