Techy Help (AGAIN) please

Can't get windows to fire up on my laptop - the windows symbol appears as it always did then screen just goes blank with the cursor in the middle. Have done al lthe start in safe mode melarky and all the F12 boots things. Any suggestions before i go and get fleeced in a Yarmouth Compooter shop. Thanks in advance
