Players Leaving

Bruce pretty much wanted to go after 84/85 I think-we had gone down and weren't going to play in Europe the following season. Ken Brown would have worked hard to persuade him, Watson, Woods et al to stick around and get us back up again.

To their credit they did I guess as we could have sold all three of them on relegation. We went back up again with as good a side as we'd ever had to that time with all three of them onboard, Bruce stayed on for another season and a half in the old First Division and was still here after Woods and Watson had gone.

He didn't exactly leave us in the lurch when he went, but he has rarely, a'la Andy Townsend been very complimentary about us since he left, but I guess he hasn't about Gillingham either!

He never seems to have quite clicked as a Manager though but I bet, given the circumstances* (Lambert moves on next Summer, Bruce is out of work) he'd come back here in an instant.

*Purely hypothetical scenario not a prediction!
