Given that we already have a purchase tax (stamp duty) which you seem to have forgotten

and given that the entire point of the mansion tax is that it is an ongoing tax, not a point of ourchase tax, then yes, this is self-evidently about the ongoing nature of the tax

As to council tax, there are well known anomalies and issues of principle with that, but it has more principle behind it than this new tax - it is local and variable, it is logically connected to what it funds (local services), and you pay it on all your properties (because you consime local services to some extent wherever you are).

What I am objecting to (and what you are not addressing) are the anomalies which arise from the creation of a new tax arising simply from owning one particular type of asset, when the ownership of other assets of identical worth (including a portfolio of other properties) is not taxed
