German beer used to be staunchly regionalist and proud of it.

So up north and east you drink Pils, in the Ruhr Altbier, smoked beer around north Bavaria, wheat beer all over the south, black beer in parts of the east and K?lsch only in Cologne and nearby. Not to mention smaller local specialities and every town having several breweries. Now you can get Erdinger Weizen on tap in Attleborough.
