I'm not exactly his number one fan - to my mind he should never have visited Saddam on any pretext (and took him Quality Street). He gets a very bad press - much as Scargill did during the miners strike (read The Enemy Within by Seamus Milne about how Scargill & the NUM was stitched up). the theory being: throw enough mud and some of it sticks.
