I think the plan is that he is a back up CB.

In a way it makes for a great bench.

R Martin actually covers all 4 spots along the back.

If either CB is injured he plays

If the right back is injured he plays

If the left back is injured, Naughton moves to LB and RM to RB.

It could actually free up another attacking bench option vs WBA.
