seems to reverting to the "at least he's better than Hamilton" argument. But really the situations aren't very comparable. The only comparison between now and 2000/01 is in the way the season has started - just like Worthington Mr Hamilton could point to excellent performances (Sheffield United) and ludicrous refereeing decisions (the extra time at Blackburn). But there the similarities end - for a start Hamilton had the excuse that his best player had been sold, and by the middle of October his replacement was out with a long-term injury.
Unlike Hamilton, Worthington has been a very succesful manager, and most of the senior players owe their place in the side to him. So of course they will back him. A much more relevant comparison would be with the great managers of the past. Would the "big players" of past teams "have put their bodies on the line" for Saunders, or Brown for instance in the last days of their management? Of course they would. But it was still a good thing that those managers went when they did.
And another thing - it's all very well having the backing of the players - but if you are picking the wrong ones, or playing them out of position, and with poor tactics then all the backing in the world isn't enough. And that's been the case with us for well over a season now.
