I met Dave Whelan a few times when staying at his wife's hotel, the Wrightington

He was always polite and attentive to his guests. Strangely he always wanted to know if the real ale he sold was cold enough. Yes it was, it was normally too cold!

He was reluctant to talk about Wigan, but all new signings stayed there. It was also where the visiting teams stayed there, a nice hotel.

I was on the same train as Damien Francis the day he signed.
