Thoughts about Wigan.........

Its pretty obvious that Dave Whelan has created almost an artificial PL club.

You cant knock the guy because he cares about football and put his money where his mouth is.

In the recent Alan Sugar football documentry he gave an honest assessment of the problems in the PL.
(Mainly the players wages are too high.)

He also noted he is looking for a successor as he is now 74

With all that context its interesting to note that Wigan have accepted a bid of 9.5 million for N?Zogbia and are also on the verge of selling Rodallega for around the same price.
N?Zogbia is in the last year so that deal kind of makes sense. Although Martinez doesnt agree for obvious reasons.

I think if both go it will be interesting to see what Wigan do in the transfer market?

Whelan might be pulling back a little, if they get relegated they wont have as big a wage bill to cope with.

Maybe the realization is starting to hit that they "got away with it last season"

Whelan is not stupid, the crowds are dropping every season.
It costs more and more money to compete.
With the new financial fair play rules its going to hurt Wigan hard.

He might feel that relegation wouldnt be that bad if they could go down without a huge wage bill looming.

If you shell out huge on wages like Brum did you are left with a big mess.
They are lucky they at least have some decent players to sell, to bail them out of the financial mess somewhat.

Chris Hughton must be thinking what have I landed in here.

He deserved better than having the squad completely gutted, chairman in jail and the expectation of getting promotion at the first attempt.
