I think it was quite clear

that placing the death of a horse in the same bracket as the cold blooded execution of 90 teenagers in the same bracket - namely 'a shocking weekend' - was a little crass.

So while it was probably unnecessary to go over the top about this (I mean who cares?) it is equally daft to pretend that the comment was entirely sensible, acceptable and benign.

Sorry for trying to plough the middle ground here and of course... NBTTT.
