Cliche, but...

...The Wire is simply peerless. Have watched the whole thing through twice. You need to give it a few episodes at the start though.

Just started The Shield (on Series 2 just now) - different but deals with similar questions about morality, though less from a class-driven angle than The Wire does.

Always makes me chuckle when people say the licence fee allows the BBC to make the best television in the world. It doesn't: HBO does.
