I was there with me wife last year, as we visited Krakow for 5 days. I must say it was a strange experience in many ways.
Just being there simming through that awful past and remembering what really happened there in 42-45(ish).
Just walking past the baracks and the ovens. Seeing the collected suitcases, people's belongings and even the pile of hair!
Come to think of it, Birkenau was even worse, as more people were killed there. More of the barracks etc are intact in Birkenau.
Anyways. I think paying visits to these camps should teach us all a lesson for all of us in Europe. These things can happen again. And they did to a certain amount in Bosnia in the 90's.
Only drawback from seeing Auschwitz except the heat, was that after queing up and having little time to reflect, just being there, I felt i had little time to think. Almost unreal is my final perception.
