If/when we sign Ritchie de Laet its being assumed he is defensive cover at RB/CB.

I dont think this is the reason PL has brought him in.

If he does well in pre-season I think Lambert wants him to be the starting left back in the premier league.

He does have the ability to play various positions which is obviously a bonus.
He is also pretty quick and is able to get up and down the wings which is what Lambert is looking for if we play the diamond.

I still think Lambert is looking for another CB
