If that really is all why not consider a mini laptop ?

I and the missus have the Acer Aspire One

10.1. inch screen, 1 inch thick, less than 1kg weight so ultra mobile. Battery life about 4hrs (3 cell battery) or 8hrs (6 cell battery), comes installed with Windows 7 starter and Microsoft Office starter which has Word and Excel cut down versions (but appears to support full range of word processing features). She paid 299 euros for hers about 8 months ago (6 cell battery). I paid 199 for mine a couple of weeks ago (3 cell battery). The keyboard is also 93% of normal lappy size so is perfectly fine.

Can't do many things at the same time, but is fine for doing one thing at a time. Use Chrome as the browser (simply cos it is quicker which is useful on a low spec machine) and use Thunderbird for email which is free. Not quite as nice as Outlook but perfectly good enough.

If she wants to use it to watch HD video, movies, needs a DVD player / writer, bigger screen or any graphical or video sodding around then go for the higher performance normal lappies suggested below (NEVER buy a second hand laptop because battery is almost certainly f**ked and replacing worn parts is much harder and more expensive than in a desktop).
