NORWICH
What they need
In short, quality everywhere. Despite some of their fans believing Paul Lambert to be the Messiah and that he will keep them in the Premier League with any collection of ramshackle cloggers, Norwich simply need better players in most positions. Specifically, they need a new keeper, at least one centre-half, some cover in midfield and some strikers.
They need Premier League players. Unfortunately Lambert appears to be aiming for the same policy that succeeded in the Championship, but that very rarely works in the top flight - namely buying young talent from the division below and moulding it into his own image. A bid for Rob Green has been mentioned (possibly just in the F365 offices...not sure), and how about a return to Carrow Road for David Bentley? Who knows, a small dose of humility might be enough to bring out that latent talent.
Do they have any money?
A bit. Looks like they aren't going to go mental with the Premier League bounty, but one doesn't imagine that Delia will say no to Lambert too many times. If you will.
What's been said
"We have not got a foothold in this league at all, we are a new team coming up really quickly so I have to box clever. I also know that come January time I will have to maybe strengthen again. The club have been great, the board have been great. They know the current group need a hand, but we will never go out and do what Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal or Manchester United can do" - Lambert on his summer plans.
"I'd like to stress that there shouldn't be a euphoria that this (promotion) money is going to land on my doorstep. I'll have a chat with the board and what we can do, is what we can do. The reality of the game is I need help and I'm sure they do everything they can to give me that help. I'll wait and see what will happen. The club won't go down the road of a couple of years ago when we nearly went out of business. That's the reality of football. I'd like to think (I will get some funds). Generally the chats we have had have been OK, but I just have to wait and see" - Lambert warns his fans not to get carried away.
What they will probably get
The purchases of James Vaughan, Steve Morison and the imminent arrival of Bradley Johnson points to a definite policy of buying from below. A couple of more high-profile loans might sex things up a little, and Best Player in the World (TM) Dani Pacheco could well reprise his loan spell from last season.
A little bit condescending and perhaps a little harsh but you cant really argue with it as an outsider's view.
