organised through work in conjunction with them. I pay 20,000 yen (about 150 quid) to get up there and back, insurance, etc. We are not staying up there but some people go up for days and crash in dedicated dwellings but you have to arrange everything in advance through the volunteer organisations. In general, a lot of the areas, you cannot get to - some of the highways are still dedicated to clean-up vehicles, so you need a special pass on your car to get in and out of some areas.
